I made this guide on getting started pi3 with NOOBS installation. As you know everyone wants to buy pi3 one thing must keep in mind, there is two type of Pi’s available on online stores across the world. One made in the Uk version and another is China version mentioned as Madi in PRC abbreviation of people of Republic China.
The purpose of telling about these two versions is people are confused what is the original version by Raspberry organization. You can find about this problem on the raspberry official forum. The both are original Pi’s you can buy it without worrying.
Getting started Pi3:
Getting started pi3 not difficult at all. That guides for beginners. Let’s get started with Raspberry Pi3.
Things you may need:
In this guide, I am using Raspberry Pi3 B which is new version recently launched by Raspberry Pi organization. Its third generation model of Pi originated in February 2016. It has 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core ARMv8 processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM which allows you more fast multitasking rather than Pi2. Also, has built-in low power Wifi and Bluetooth 4.1 module that is is the main thing which forcing to buy Pi2 users. 😀
It has 40GPIO pins, SD card slot now with push-pull rather than pull-pull. Also has 4USB port, 1LAN port, Camera interface CSI, Display interface DSI, audio jack. All accessories of the previous version of Raspberry Pi1, 2, and zero all supported with Pi3. Its cost remains at 35$
LED Monitor/TV with HDMI:
You need HDMI cable for display which supports 1080p. It has very impressive VideoCore IV 3D GPU, Which allows you to play games, videos, and much more….,
Micro SD card ( Minimum 8GB):
For OS installation you required 8GB SD card because Pi does not have the built-in memory feature. You can buy preinstalled OS called NOOBS ( New Out of Box Software). In this guide, I will tell you how you can make your NOOBS loaded SD card.
You need HDMI cable for getting display output that’s not coming with Pi3 box. You can buy it Spratly if you do not have it.
You need a USB Mouse to control Raspberry Pi GUI. Plug n play no need external drivers.
You need USB keyboard to use Raspberry Pi. It’s plug n play no need external drivers
You need a power supply to powering Pi3. Recommended 3A supply. Raspberry has OTG micro USB slot to power up.
Raspberry Support many kinds of OS, however, Raspberry Pi organization developed Debian based OS Rasbian Pixel latest version of Rasbian OS. You can install full Linux on it like. And also install Kodi XMBC media center. It also runs Android unofficial available. Soon it will be available official for Raspberry Pi.
Getting Started Pi3 (NOOBS installation):
As I tell above NOOBS is New Out Of Box Software which contain easy installer for all supported OS. You can get NOOBS pre-installed SD cards from Raspberry Pi distributor OR make it yourself it’s available at the raspberry website.
- RISC OS
- Arch Linux
Download NOOBS offline zip file from here. However, NOOBS lite online version also available.
- First thing you need to format your SD card. There is a tool by SD card association which I will recommend you to use it. You can Download it from here. It is available for both Windows and MAC OS. For Linux Follow these instructions by Norman Durban.
- When you are formatting your SD card set “FORMAT SIZE ADJUSTMENT” to “ON.”
- Extract Downloaded NOOBS file and select all files and Drag to SD card OR paste to SD card
- Insert SD card to Pi3 Slot.
- Connect all components which I mention the top of this guide.
- Power On Raspberry Pi3.
- When NOOBS installer appear it only shows Rasbian OS you need to connect your Pi to the internet via WiFi OR LAN to shows all NOOBS included OS.
Installation of os may take a couple of minutes sit back and relax. When the installation did click on OK, and Pi will restart Rasbian new version Rasbian Pixel screen appears. If you want to install more OS in same SD card, reboot your Pi Press F8 when he asks installer will open.
