In this project, I will tell you how you can make fingerprint lock to add biometric security with Arduino UNO. However, you can also learn from my previous project of Home Automation System and you can add biometric security to it. This fingerprint lock system is very cheap rather than branded and ready made locks.
Basically, this fingerprint scanner is very cheap, nicely build and it builds using advanced DSP (Digital Signal Processing) chips. it has its own memory to store fingerprints.
How to made Fingerprint Lock
Before start making project I want to discuss what we make in this project and how it works. This project based on Arduino controller you can use both Arduino mega or nano in this project. So in this project, we will make a fingerprint lock with LCD display. You can secure your home gate/door/office or you can make a locker that needs your fingerprints to unlock.I make this guide very easy and step by step for everyone who wants to make IOT things.
Required Hardware & Where to Buy!!
- Fingerprint scanner
- Arduino Nano Board
- ILI9163C TFT LCD (128*128)
- Some jumper wires
- Powerbank OR Adapter 5v 2A
TFT LCD Wiring:
-Vcc –> 3v3
Gnd –> GND
CS –> pin 10
RST –> Pin 15
A0 –> Pin 9
SDA –> Pin 11
SCK –> Pin 13
LED –> 3v3
FingerPrint wiring :
Red –> 5V
After wiring, everything powered the Nano with USB and upload code to Arduino Nano. If you don’t know that how to upload code and configure Arduino Uno check this article.

For this project you should install libraries to Arduino IDE for libraries installation guide see below:
You have to install all three libraries that i linked in Code and libraries section after that you have to save your fingerprints on scanner memory remember fingerprint memory can store upto 1000 fingerprints images and false rate is 0.00001% that which make it prety secure .
Now we have to enroll fingerprints in its memory for this follow below steps.
- Open file
- Go to Examples and
- Select Adafruit fingerprint sensor library
- open Enroll sketch
- Upload sketch
- Open serial monitor to store new fingerprints
When you successfully enrolled your fingerprint to scanner storage upload the Main Code and all Done 🙂
Note: You can DIY box for Fingerprint scanner and TFT and also make it with the 3D printer.
